Furman Women Shut Out Elon 7-0

Greenville, SC - The Furman women's tennis team shut out Elon 7-0 Tuesday afternoon at the Mickel Tennis Center. With the win the Lady Paladins moved to 10-3 on the year, 3-0 in the Southern Conference and continue their regular season conference win streak which now sits at fifty-four. The loss drops the Phoenix to 4-8, 1-6 in the Southern Conference.

Furman jumped out to an early 1-0 lead capturing the doubles point by winning all three doubles matches. Furman went on to win all six singles matches in straight sets for their fourth shut out in the last five matches. At No.1 Mary Neill Hagood downed Evin Prelec 6-1, 6-1 and in flight two Caroline Bentley ousted Kelly Fleck 6-2, 6-1. Playing in flight three Shannon Moore eased by Elizabeth Kernoodle 6-1, 6-0 and Jacqueline Eckert defeated Melissa Holland 6-2, 6-1 at No.4. In flight five Marti Morris hit her way to a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Molly Cade while in the final match at No.6 Lauren Osborne downed Alli Benton 6-0, 6-1.

The Lady Paladins return to action on Thursday as they travel to Spartanburg, SC for a 3 PM match against Wofford.
