Furman Women Roll Past Charlotte 7-0

Greenville, SC - The Furman women's tennis team improved to 7-3 on the year after a 7-0 shutout over Charlotte Wednesday afternoon at the Mickel Tennis Center. The loss pushes the 49ers to 6-2.
Furman quickly captured the doubles point, when Caroline Bentley and Mary Neill Hagood downed Laura Swain and Ashleigh Murray 8-1 at No.1 and at No.3 Shannon Moore teamed with Lauren Osborne to defeat Ali Piacente and Jennifer Hatch 8-2. Furman went on to win the flight two match as Marti Morris and Jacqueline Eckert squeaked by Kathy Robey and Ofra Friedman 7-6(4).
Going into singles play, the Lady Paladins never let up, winning all six singles matches to secure the victory at 7-0. At No.1 Mary Neill Hagood eased by Laura Swain 6-1, 6-3 and in flight two Caroline Bentley hit her way to a 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 win over Ofra Friedman. In flight three action Shannon Moore defeated Kathy Robey 6-4, 6-4 while at No.4 Jacqueline Eckert coasted to a 6-1, 6-2 victory. In flight five Marti Morris downed Ali Piacente 6-3, 6-3 and in the final match Lauren Osborne eased by Jennifer Hatch 6-0, 6-2.
Furman returns to action on Saturday for an 11 AM homr match against UNC Greensboro.
