Lady Paladins Shut Out Winthrop 7-0

Greenville, SC - The Furman women's tennis team won their third straight match Friday afternoon at the Mickel Tennis Center, shutting out Winthrop 7-0. With the win Furman moves to 6-3 on the year with the Lady Eagles falling to 9-3.

In doubles play, Furman took the early 1-0 advantage coming away with victories in all three matches. No.47 Caroline Bentley and Mary Neill Hagood easily won their match 8-1 over Ana Simanca and Paula Takahashi at No.1 and in flight two Marti Morris and Jacqueline Eckert downed Renata Caceres and Larisa Bekmetova 9-8(1). In the third match Shannon Moore and Lauren Osborne picked up an 8-6 win over Jenny Andrade and Danielle Moita. The Lady Paladins went on to win all six singles matches giving them a 7-0 victory on the day. Mary Neill Hagood downed Paula Takahashi 6-2, 6-3 at No.1 while Caroline Bentley hit her way to a 2-6, 6-1, 6-3 victory over Danielle Moita at No.2. In flight three Shannon Moore fought off a first set loss to down Renata Caceres 1-6, 6-3, 6-1 and at No.4 Jacqueline Eckert eased by Ana Simanca 6-2, 6-3. In the last two matches Marti Morris downed Jenny Andrade 6-1, 1-6,(10-5) and Lauren Osborne won 6-3, 6-4 over Larisa Bekmetova.

The Lady Paladins return to action on Wednesday, March 16 with a home match against Charlotte at 2 PM.
