Dartmouth Edges Out Furman Women's Tennis, 4-3

Greenville, S.C. - After sweeping the doubles point, the Furman women's tennis team managed only two singles wins and dropped a 4-3 decision to the visiting Dartmouth Big Green on Sunday afternoon at Mickel Tennis Center. The Lady Paladins have dropped five straight matches and fall to 1-5 on the year. With the victory, Dartmouth improved to 5-1 on the season.

The Lady Paladins started the match on the right foot, winning all three doubles matches to take a 1-0 advantage into singles play. Sophomore Laura Gioia and junior Natasa Manojlovic improved to 5-1 this spring with an 8-4 win over Megan Zebroski and Mary Beth Winingham. Senior Lisa Bornt-Davis and sophomore Lauren Tomory topped Natalie O'Rourke and Jesse Adler, 8-4, to secure the point for Furman.

In singles action, Furman picked up wins at flight one and three to take a 3-0 advantage in the match. Gioia won her fourth consecutive match, rolling by Zebroski 6-2, 6-0. Senior Bonnie Baird also earned a two-set win over Lindsay Winingham at number three. Dartmouth proceeded to earn two-set victories at flight two, four and five to knot the match at three points apiece. In the final match at number six, Tomory earned a 6-3 win in the opening set against Jamie Caplan, before dropping the final two sets 6-7 (3), 1-6.

Furman will be on the road for the next three matches, beginning with a tussle at SMU on February 27 at 3 p.m.
