Auburn Edges Furman Women 4-3

Auburn, AL - The Furman women's tennis team fell to 1-2 today after a 4-3 loss to Auburn at the Luther Young Tennis Complex. With the win the Tigers improve to 3-1 on the year.

The Lady Paladins fell behind early losing the doubles point for the first time this year. Furman did pick up a win in flight three with Shannon Moore and Lauren Osborne downing Ashley Cowart and Tori Almagno 8-4, but Auburn won in the top two slots giving them the 1-0 advantage.

In singles action Auburn quickly took a 2-0 lead with Nancy Peaden defeating Lauren Osborne 6-4, 6-1. Furman then evened the score to 2-2 when Marti Morris eased by Ashley Cowart in flight four and Caroline Bentley ousted Isabel Rosenbrock at No.3 both by a score of 6-1, 6-2. Auburn then took the next two matches sealing the victory for the Tigers. In flight two Petra Bercik downed Shannon Moore 7-5, 6-1 and at No.1 Jelena Jovic defeated Mary Neill Hagood 7-5, 6-2. In the last match of the day Furman's Jacqueline Eckert won over Tori Almagno 6-4, 6-3 at No.5 making the final score 4-3.

The Lady Paladins stay in Auburn for a noon matchup against Birmigham Southern on Sunday at the Luther Young Tennis Complex.
