60th Ranked Lady Paladins Drop Season Opener To 2nd Ranked Florida

Greenville, SC - The 60th ranked Furman women's tennis team dropped their season opener 7-0 to 2nd ranked Florida Saturday afternoon at the Mickel Tennis Center. The win moves the Gators to 2-0, with the Lady Paladins falling to 0-1.

Florida jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, capturing two of the three doubles matches. In flight three Florida's Alexis Gordon and Keri Robison downed Jacqueline Eckert and Lauren Tomory 8-1, while Lolita Frangulyan and Diana Srebrovic defeated Shannon Moore and Lauren Osborne 8-2 at No.2 to give the Gators the 1-0 advantage. Furman's 39th ranked team of Laura Gioia and Marti Morris picked up the only Lady Paladin victory on the day, upsetting Florida's 25th ranked team of Whitney Benik and Nina Suvak 8-6 in flight one. The Gators went on to sweep all six singles matches in straight sets to give Florida the 7-0 shutout.

Furman next travels to Columbia, S.C. on Tuesday for their first road match of the season against South Carolina. Match time is set for 5:00 PM.
