GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman's Julia Adams has been named the Southern Conference women's tennis player of the week for all matches played Feb. 5-11, the conference office announced Tuesday. Adams, a freshman, went 2-0 in singles play and 3-0 in doubles action on the week.
Adams, a native of Knoxville, Tenn., started the week with a 6-1, 6-0 road win against USC Upstate's Noelia Acuna in the No. 2 position on Feb. 6. Two days later against Coastal Carolina, Adams' match with Jessie Mount was unfinished, then on Feb. 10, Adams earned a 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 victory versus Liberty at flight three.
In doubles play, Adams teamed with Georgie Walker to beat USC Upstate's Acuna and Ana Boza, 6-1, in the No. 3 position. Later in the week, Adams moved up to the No. 1 spot and partnered with Katarina Kozarov. The Paladin duo combined to beat Coastal Carolina's Mount and Jennifer Brown, 6-1, and then earned another 6-1 victory against Liberty's Lara Soares and Maria Medina two days later.
Furman (7-1) is back in action at Marshall on Feb. 15 and will square off against Penn State in Huntington, W.Va., on Feb. 16.
Also nominated: Raquel Amaro (ETSU), Katie Sidor (Mercer), Tayah Cross (UNCG), Elsa Pool (Samford), Emma Van Hee (Chattanooga), Jordan Strickland (Western Carolina) and Brittney Wilbur (Wofford).
