GREENVILLE, S.C. -- The 27th annual Furman Fall Classic women's tennis tournament will be held this weekend at the Mickel Tennis Center on the campus of Furman University in Greenville, S.C.  The tournament will feature eight teams, in a flighted competition (i.e. no team winner, just individual flight champions for singles and doubles).

Six teams competing in the tournament were ranked in the top 34 in the 2013 final ITA Collegiate Tennis rankings:  Alabama (11th), Clemson (13th), Vanderbilt (19th), Florida State (24th), Tennessee (31st), and South Carolina (34).  The eight-team field also includes 11 singles players and six doubles teams ranked in the preseason ITA Collegiate Tennis rankings.

Doubles play will begin at 9 a.m. on Friday, followed by singles action at 1 p.m.  Play will continue on Saturday and Sunday, beginning at 9 a.m. each day.

Furman returns five players from last season's team that posted a 14-9 overall record and an 8-2 mark in Southern Conference play.  Head coach Debbie Southern, who is in her 30th season with the Paladins, guided the 2013 team to the semifinals of the league tournament.

Juniors Alex Moreno-Kaste and Kelly Sullivan and seniors Katherine Oudin and Margaret Boyette return after being named to the All-Southern Conference second team last season.
