GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Tune in to watch Miss South Carolina Brooke Mosteller, a former Furman tennis and track athlete, as she competes in the Miss America competition live on ABC on Sun., Sept. 15, at 9 p.m. at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, N.J.

Mosteller was featured this week in a video entitled, "Laces to Lashes," which is part of the Southern Conference's Starting Line series.  The video can be viewed at http://www.soconsports.com/mediaPortal/player.dbml?id=3055113&db_oem_id=4000

A native of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., Mosteller was a member of the Furman women's tennis team from 2008-2010 and joined the track team as a sophomore in the spring of 2010.  She holds the Paladin record of 10:49.21 in the 3,000m Steeplechase, which she set at the 2012 Southern Conference Outdoor Championships, and is a member of the school-record holding 4x1,600m relay team (22:01.27).

Mosteller competed for the first time for the Paladin track team at the 2010 Furman Invitational, setting a new meet record with a first-place time of 17:43.16 in the 5,000m.  She went on to win the 5,000m with a time of 17:56.55 to earn All-SoCon honors at the 2010 Southern Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships, just a few weeks later.  For her efforts, she was named to the 2010 SoCon Outdoor Track All-Freshman Team.

As a junior in 2011, Mosteller competed in cross country for the first time for the Paladins, earning All-Southern Conference second team honors after finishing 12th with a time of 18:31.53 at the conference cross country championship meet.  She again earned All-SoCon second team honors for cross country as a senior in 2012 after placing eighth with a time of 17:20.00 at the league meet.

Mosteller, a 2012 Furman graduate with a bachelor's degree in political science, is a law student at the University of South Carolina.
