Furman To Entertain Key SoCon Opponents This Weekend

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- The Furman women's tennis team will entertain key Southern Conference foes Samford and Chattanooga this weekend at the Mickel Tennis Center in Greenville, S.C.  The Paladins will face Samford Saturday at 11 a.m. then return to action Sunday at 11 a.m. versus Chattanooga.

Furman carries a four-match winning streak into Saturday's match.  The Paladins have won their last three matches, 7-0, after defeating East Carolina and Georgia Southern last weekend, then beating Appalachian State on Wednesday.

Saturday's match versus the Bulldogs marks the sixth meeting between the two teams.  The Paladins posted a 4-3 win in last season's match to take a 4-1 lead in the series.  Furman leads the all-time series versus Chattanooga, 29-8, after defeating the Mocs, 6-1, in Chattanooga in 2011.

The Bulldogs enter Saturday's match with a 10-4 overall record and 2-3 SoCon mark.  Samford defeated Western Carolina, 7-0, on Wednesday after falling to Elon and UNC Greensboro last week.  The Bulldogs defeated Georgia Southern, 5-2, earlier this season.

Chattanooga will play at Wofford on Saturday before coming to Furman on Sunday.  The Mocs entered the match versus the Terriers with a 10-3 overall record and 2-2 league mark after defeating Elon, 4-3, on Tuesday.  Last Sunday, Chattanooga dropped a 5-2 match to UNC Greensboro.  Earlier this season, the Mocs defeated Georgia Southern, 6-1.
