Quarterback Chris Forcier and women’s soccer standout Rachel Shelnutt were named Furman Male and Female Athletes of the Year, respectively, Monday evening at the school’s ESPY style all-sports awards banquet held at Timmons Arena.

The College of Charleston downed Furman 5-0 Saturday to earn a berth in Sunday's Southern Conference Women's Tennis Championship match. Due to inclement weather, the match was moved to the Charleston Tennis Center and began with singles play.

Furman women’s tennis players Lauren Kline and Amanda Murray earned second team All-Southern Conference honors, while Paladin Alex Moreno-Kaste earned a spot on the league’s all-freshman team, the league office announced today. Postseason balloting was done by the league’s head coaches, who were not allowed to vote for their own team members.

College of Charleston senior Caroline Newman defeated Paladin sophomore Katherine Oudin, 6-3, 1-6, 7-6 (7-4) at number three singles to clinch a 4-3 victory over Furman Wednesday at the Mickel Tennis Center in Greenville, S.C. With the win, the Cougars gained control of second place in the Southern Conference standings.
