Appalachian State Downs Furman 6-1, Earns Doubleheader Split

Boone, N.C. - Appalachian State hurler Yancey Moose scattered six hits and allowed just one run over seven innings to lead the Mountaineers to a 6-1 victory over Furman and doubleheader split Saturday afternoon at ASU Softball Stadium.

Furman claimed game one in extra innings 4-3.

The loss drops Furman to 15-27-1 overall and 5-9 in the Southern Conference. The Mountaineers improve to 17-31 overall and 9-8 in the SoCon.

The top of Appalachian's order fueled the Mountaineers 11-hit attack as Danielle Peters and Lindsay Glover each notched three hits. Glover and second baseman Brittany Gaston each tallied two RBI.

The Mountaineers broke on top in the bottom of the third. Four consecutive singles, including RBI base hits from Glover and Gaston, helped ASU to a 2-0 lead. After adding a run in the fifth, Appalachian exploded for three runs in the sixth. Taking advantage of four hits and a costly Furman error, Keri Blackwelder and Peters scored on RBI singles.

Moose improved to 9-13 with the win while Murray fell to 7-14. Murray was touched for four earned runs on 11 hits in six innings. She struck out five and walked two. Lana Mackey collected two doubles for the Lady Paladins while Danielle Franklin batted in Furman's only run.

Furman and Appalachian State conclude their three-game series with a single game on Sunday at 1 p.m.
