Georgia Downs Furman Softball, 9-1

Athens, Ga. - Georgia hurler Kasi Carroll tossed a complete-game and fanned eight Lady Paladins to lead the Bulldogs to a 9-1 victory over Furman in game one of Wednesday's doubleheader at the UGA Softball Complex.
Georgia (34-22) took a 1-0 lead in the first inning of game one. Charvi Greer reached on an infield single to start the frame before stealing second. Kellie Middleton followed with an RBI single through the left side to start the scoring.
Georgia extended its lead in the second inning. Christie Hamilton drew a leadoff walk and moved to second in Kasi Carroll's sacrifice bunt. After a wild pitch moved Hamilton to third, Victoria lined a two-out single to center to give the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead.
Greer opened the third with a single to third base and scored on Middleton's double off of the centerfield wall to up the lead to 3-0.
Furman (14-25-1) got on the board in the top of the fourth. Abby Robertson singled down the right field line with one out and Stephanie Cushing reached on a fielder's choice. Megan Jaudon hammered a double off of the centerfield wall to plate Cushing and trim the lead to 3-1.
Hamilton drew a leadoff walk again in the fourth and moved to second on a groundout. Sojouner Moody sacrificed herself but an error allowed her to reach safely and give the Bulldogs runners at the corners. Hamtilton scored on Sanders fielder's choice to second to up the UGA lead to 4-1. Furman starter got Kristin Schnake to line out to center, but Greer singled up the middle to score Moody from second. A double steal and throwing error by Jaudon plated the Bulldogs third run of the frame before Melissa Wood lined out to right to end the inning.
Megan McAllister opened the fifth with a single off of reliever Vanessa Williams and Hamilton followed with her third base on balls. After a sacrifice by Carroll, pinch hitter Kacey Coonce reached on an error to drive in a run and give UGA a 7-1 lead. Pinch hitter Jessica Gardner ended the game by mercy rule with a two-run double to right-center.
Carroll improved to 20-7 surrendering just one run on three hits. Greer went 3-for-3 with two RBI while Middleton went 2-for-2 with a pair of RBI.
Lana Mackey (7-11) suffered the loss for Furman allowing four earned runs on six hits in four innings. Jaudon went 1-for-2 with a double and a RBI to pace the Lady Paladins.
Game two of the twinbill is slated for 6:00 p.m.
