Western Carolina Completes Sweep Over Lady Paladins, Win 4-1 on Sunday

Cullowhee, NC - Western Carolina used two home runs in a four-run fourth inning to down Furman 4-1 in the series finale on Sunday afternoon. With the win, Western Carolina sweeps its first-ever Southern Conference weekend series.

Savannah Filley earned the win for Western Carolina to push her record to 3-5 on the season. Filley allowed no runs on three hits in four innings of relief for the Catamounts. Vanessa Williams suffered the loss for Furman, allowing three runs on four hits in four innings pitched.

Amber Kiser collected two hits and drove in one run for the Lady Paladins. Jessica Mathis also had two hits, including a double for Furman.

Furman got on the board in the second inning as Abby Robertson laced a one-out single to left field. Jessica Mathis singled to left field, and then Amber Kiser knocked an RBI single up the middle.

The Catamounts tied up the score in the bottom of the fifth inning on Lauren Ross' leadoff home run. For Ross, the home run marked her second round-tripper of the series. Western Carolina then extended the lead as a walk and single put two Catamounts on base, and Heather Pritchard hit a three-run shot to left field.

Furman returns to action on Wednesday as the Lady Paladins play host to Georgia State in a midweek doubleheader at Pepsi Stadium.
