Towson Edges Furman At Winthrop Invitational 2-0

Rock Hill, S.C. - Christine Navarro belted a two-run homer in the top half of the first inning and Jillian Kiley tossed a complete-game shutout to guide Towson to a 2-0 victory over Furman Saturday afternoon at the Winthrop Invitational.

Jillian Fraser led off the contest with a walk and siped second base with one out. After a groundout to second to retire the third hitter in the Tigers' order, Navarro blasted a home run to left field for the game's only two runs.

Kiley scattered six Furman hits and struck out seven to garner the victory for Towson. Aimee Rose and Keely Walsh each collected two hits for the Tigers (7-8).

Erica Nesselroad took the loss for Furman to fall to 4-1 on the season. The senior allowed two runs on two hits in just one inning in the circle. Sophomore Blake Murray pitched six scoreless innings of relief allowing six hits and striking out three.

Catcher Abby Robertson fueled Furman's offense goin 3-for-3 at the plate.

Furman, 15-12 on the season, faces Southern Conference foe Western Carolina in brackett play at approximately 5p.m. Saturday.
