Furman Softball Records Doubleheader Sweep At Charleston Southern 6-1, 7-1

Charleston, S.C. - Freshman Brythe Blankenship belted her first career home run and extended her hitting streak to 11 games as Furman swept Charleston Southern 6-1, 7-1 in softball action Wednesday at Buccaneer Field.

Trailing 1-0 in the top of the third inning of game two, Stephanie Cushing hammered a one-out, two-run homer to left-center to give Furman a 2-1 lead. Megan Jaudon followed with a single up the middle and Blankenship doubled the lead with a two-run clout to left field.

Furman extended its lead to 6-1 in the fourth. Cushing laced an RBI single and Jaudon followed with an RBI double to left-center. Furman registered 14 hits in the game to offer plenty of support for junior Blake Murray who limited the Lady Bucs (6-13) to one run on five hits to improve to 3-3.

In game one, leadoff hitter Amber Kiser went 3-for-4 with two runs and Cushing and Blankenship each drove in a pair as Furman claimed a 6-1 victory.

The Lady Paladins broke open a 1-1 tie with five runs in the top half of the fifth inning. Cushing delivered a two-run single and Blankenship followed two batters later with a two-run single.

Freshman Lana Mackey improved to 3-2 in the circle tossing a complete-game. The Perry, Ga., native surrendered only an unearned run on five hits while fanning seven Lady Bucs.

Furman, 6-5-1 on the season, return to action March 2-4, at the Buzz Classic in Woodstock, Ga.
