Freaney, a 2001 graduate of Campbell, came to Furman after serving as assistant coach for the St. John's Redstorm in 2003. During the former pitcher's one year stint at St. John's, the Redstorm posted a 2.30 earned run average and fourth place finish in the Big East.
Freaney was a four-year letterwinner at Campbell. During her freshman season in 1998, Freaney finished 7-7 with a 3.94 ERA, earning her first collegiate win against Radford on February 20. In 1999, prior to red shirting for her sophomore season, Freaney was named a team co-captain. After returning to the field in 2000, Freaney was named to the NFCA Academic Honor Roll and struck out a season high twelve batters against Morgan State. In her final season at Campbell, Freaney went 10-16 with 2.75 ERA. She led the team in strikeouts with 155, and in innings pitched, throwing for 165.
The Long Beach, N.Y., native is a five-time NFCA Academic Honor Roll selection and ranks fourth on Campbell's all-time wins list with 40. She is Campbell's career leader in strikeouts with 396, and ranks fifth in shutouts with eight.
Freaney graduated with a B.A. in Spanish Education and recieved her Master's of Education in Interdisciplinary Studies from Campbell in 2001.
