Bert Named SoCon Softball Pitcher Of The Month For April

Greenville, S.C. -- Furman left-hander Lindsey Bert has been named Southern Conference Softball Pitcher of the Month for April, it was announced on Friday afternoon by the league office.

Bert, a native of Tallahasse, Fla., posted an 8-1 record with two saves and a 0.77 earned run average in 11 appearances during April. She fanned 108 batters while allowing just 23 hits and 13 walks over 63.2 innings of work as the Paladins compiled a 12-2 record for the month. Also a key bat in the middle of Furman's lineup, Bert batted .425 for the month with five doubles, five homers and 16 RBI.

The senior, who became the first SoCon pitcher to earn the honor four times in her career, tossed complete-game, one-hit shutouts in victories over Winthrop, Charleston Southern, Western Carolina and Samford, while also hurling a pair of two-hit shutouts in April. Bert capped the month with four consecutive shutouts to propel Furman to series victories over Western Carolina and Samford.

Entering this weekend's final series of the regular season at Mercer, Bert sports a 23-8 record in the circle and a 1.59 ERA in 216 innings of work. She has struck out an NCAA Division I-leading 293 batters and is tied for the national lead with 12 shutouts.

The three-game set at Mercer opens with a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday before the Paladins and Bears close out the regular season with a 1 p.m. game on Sunday. Live statistics for all three games will be available through StatBroadcast with links provided at FurmanPaladins.com.

Following this weekend's series, Furman will take part in the SoCon Softball Championship at UNCG Softball Stadium in Greensboro, N.C., May 9-12.
