Greenville, S.C. – Furman softball returns to action on Wednesday, traveling to Charleston, S.C., to take on Charleston Southern in a doubleheader starting at 2:00 p.m. Both games are set to be streamed on the Big South Network.
The Paladins (29-10), winners of five-straight, are ranked #62 in this week's RPI, the highest RPI ranking in school history. Following a doubleheader sweep of Winthrop on Tuesday, Furman used three-consecutive walk-off homeruns to sweep ETSU to move to 3-3 on the season in conference play. Lindsey Bert was named the SoCon's Player and Pitcher of the Week after going 3-0 with a save and 0.84 ERA in the circle, and recording three multi-hit games, batting .538, and blasting three home runs and 8 RBI at the plate last week.
Candace Johnson continues to lead the Paladins at the plate, hitting .296 on the season, while AnnaRose Borrelli is close behind with a .282 batting average and team-high eight home runs. Bert has continued to shine in the circle, turning in a 1.78 ERA for the season with 227 strikeouts to just 47 walks.
Charleston Southern (25-19, 6-6 Big South) fell to Gardner-Webb on Saturday, 9-4, before splitting with the Runnin' Bulldogs on the final day of the Big South softball weekend series as the Buccaneers took the first game, 9-1, while falling in the series finale, 18-9. Caitlyn Emberson ran her on-base streak to 23 consecutive games following her 4-for-4 performance in the series finale against Gardner-Webb. She had a trio of singles to go with her solo home run to extend the third-longest on-base streak in CSU history.
