Greenville, S.C. -- Furman softball will play 30 home games at Pepsi Stadium during the 2018 season and play 13 games against teams that advanced to last year's NCAA regionals, it was revealed when Interim Head Coach Wally King released the Paladins 2018 schedule on Friday.

The Paladins will open the season at the Plainsmen Invitational, hosted by nationally-ranked Auburn on February 9-11, before hosting Colgate for two games and 2017 NCAA Tournament participant Fairfield for three games on February 16-18, in the Upstate Classic. Furman will entertain Presbyterian, Marshall and Winthrop in the Spartan/Paladin Invitational the following weekend before Howard, Indiana, Mount St. Mary's and Delaware State visit Greenville as part of the Buffalo Wild Wings Classic March 2-4.

After a home doubleheader with Sacred Heart on March 6, the Paladins will battle Wright State, Norfolk State, Eastern Illinois and host College of Charleston in the Holy City Showdown March 9-11, in Mt. Pleasant, S.C. Twinbills at Pepsi Stadium versus Charlotte and Gardner-Webb follow before Furman opens its 18-game Southern Conference schedule with a three-game series at UNCG March 24-25.

"We've got a solid non-conference schedule that will challenge us and help prepare our team for what should be a very competitive SoCon schedule this season," said King, who was named interim head coach on December 1. "Multiple games against 2017 NCAA teams like Marshall, USC Upstate and Fairfield and single games against tournament teams like Auburn and South Carolina will be great tests for our ball club."

Furman opens its home SoCon slate April 7-8 against defending SoCon Tournament champion and NCAA regional participant ETSU. The Paladins also host Western Carolina and Samford in league play, while traveling to UNCG, Chattanooga and Mercer this coming season.

UNCG will host the 2018 SoCon Softball Championship in Greensboro, N.C., May 9-12.

The Paladins return seven of nine position players who started at least half of the teams games a year ago and also return their top two pitchers from a 2017 squad that posted a 31-23 record and claimed a share of the SoCon regular season title. The list of returnees includes 2017 SoCon Pitcher of the Year Lindsey Bert, 2017 SoCon Freshman of the Year Casey Bigham and first All-SoCon shortstop Brittany Houston.

Admission to all Furman games at Pepsi Stadium is free.
