Furman Softball Adds Three In November Signing Period

Greenville, S.C. -- Mackense Greico, Savannah Hughes and Natalie Morgan have signed to join the Furman softball program in the fall of 2018, it was announced on Wednesday by Paladin head coach Kyle Jamieson.

"It's exciting for us to welcome our 2018 class to the Furman softball program," said Jamieson. "We are graduating a very successful and large senior class, so it was important for us to find kids that are very athletic, have a high softball IQ and can produce offensively. We believe this class provides that."

Greico, a native of Aberdeen, Md., is a three-time first team all-conference and all-county selection for coach Bill Lewis at Aberdeen High School. The right-handed pitcher fanned 167 batters in 82 innings last season and batted .741 with six home runs.

"Mackense is a multi-talented athlete who will be a big part of our pitching staff," said Jamieson. "She can also play middle infield and outfield at a high level. She is a lefty hitter, who has the ability to hit for average and power."

Greico enters her senior season having led Aberdeen to three consecutive playoff appearances, including a 15-2 record and quarterfinal round trip as a junior. She hit .582 with five home runs while playing travel ball for Carolina Elite. The senior paced her team in doubles, walks, RBI and runs.

Hughes, a native of Maize, Kan., garnered first team Kansas Softball Coaches Association All-State honors and Wichita Eagle All-Metro accolades after leading Maize High School to 20-3 record, regional title and AAAAA state playoff appearance as a junior. The first baseman batted .539 with 42 RBI and set a Kansas state record with 14 home runs as a junior, while also shattering the state's career home runs mark with 25.

"Savannah is a powerful right-handed hitter, who has the potential to be very dangerous in the middle of our lineup," according to Jamieson. "She is a great corner player, who will also get some time behind the plate."

Morgan, a product of Stephens County High School and native of Martin, Ga., is a three-time All-Region 8-AAAA selection. As a senior this fall, Morgan guided Stephens County to a 25-10 record and appearance in the AAAA state championship game, the first in school history. She batted .314 with 21 RBI as a senior and belted five homers, including three in the state tournament.

"Natalie is another strong, powerful hitter from the right side," said Jamieson. "She is a natural born leader with a high work ethic. In the years that we have been following her, Natalie's skill set just keeps getting better and better. Again, because of her athleticism, she can play anywhere in the infield and will also compete behind the plate.

Morgan, who has been a fixture behind the plate for Stephens County over the past two seasons, guided her team to a 24-6 record and state quarterfinal round trip as a junior, while she hit .348.

The Paladins are set to return seven position starters and Southern Conference Pitcher of the Year Lindsey Bert from a 2017 squad that posted a 31-23 overall record and claimed the SoCon regular season title.
