Lady Paladins Set To Defend SoCon Tournament Title On Home Turf

Greenville, S.C. - The Furman women's soccer team will play host to the 2005 Southern Conference Women's Soccer Championships November 3-6, at Stone Soccer Stadium on the Furman campus.

Furman, who downed Davidson 3-1 to claim the 2004 SoCon Tournament title in Greensboro, N.C., will face Wofford in first round action on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. The second-seeded Lady Paladins, ranked 12th in the latest Soccer Buzz Southeast Region poll, and seventh-seeded Terriers played to a scoreless draw in their regular season match at Furman on October 23.

The tournament, which is being held at Furman (12-5-2) for the first time since 2001, gets underway Thursday at 11:00 a.m. when top-seeded Davidson takes on Elon. Fourth-seeded Western Carolina and #5 College of Charleston conclude the first session and 1:30 p.m. Third-seeded UNC Greensboro and Chattanooga square off at 5:00 p.m. before Furman and Wofford wrap up first round action.

Semifinal matches are scheduled for 5:00 and 7:30 p.m. Friday with the SoCon Championship match to take place Sunday afternoon at 1:00.

Tickets for the tournament can be purchased in advance by calling 864-294-3517 or on site one hour prior to the start of a session. An adult all-session pass for the event is $15, while an adult single-session pass is $5. The cost is $3 per session for students and youth.
