Paladins Set To Host Elon, UNC Greensboro This Weekend

Oct. 16, 2008

Greenville, S.C. - The Furman women's soccer team will conclude its regular season home schedule this weekend playing host to Elon at 7 p.m. on Friday and first place UNC Greensboro at 2 p.m. on Sunday at Stone Soccer Stadium.

The Paladins enter Friday's match with a 9-5-1 overall record and 3-3 Southern Conference mark after scoring a 2-0 victory over Chattanooga on Sunday afternoon. With five matches remaining in the regular season, Furman is looking to secure a spot in the SoCon Tournament and push for a top four finish in order to host a first round tournament match.

Furman holds an 8-0-1 mark all-time versus the Phoenix, including a 4-3 victory in Elon, N.C., last season. The Phoenix enter the match at 6-5-2 overall and 2-3-1 in the SoCon.

UNC Greensboro currently leads the SoCon with a 10-4-1 overall record and 5-0-1 conference mark. Furman and UNCG have combined to win 10 of the last 11 SoCon regular season and tournament titles with Furman shocking the regular season champion Spartans 3-1 in last season's conference title match. UNCG holds a 10-9-0 edge in the all-time series with Furman.

Sunday's tilt against UNCG will mark Senior Day for fourth-year standouts Rachel Fry and Kate Myatt. The pair of All-SoCon performers will be honored prior to the match.
