Oct. 6, 2005

Greenvile, S.C. - Furman senior Andre'a Morrison has been named the Southern Conference Women's Soccer Athlete-of-the-Month for September, the league office announced on Thursday.

Morrison tallied 10 goals, three assists and accumulated 23 total points to pace the Lady Paladins to a 6-4-1 overall record and 1-0-1 SoCon mark in the first month of the season.

Morrison has recorded three game winning goals, including Furman's lone strike in a 1-0 victory over then 10th-ranked Ohio State on September 4. Morrison netted three goals in a 9-0 victory over The Citadel on September 25, for her fourth career hat trick.

With 23 points in Furman's first 11 matches of the 2005 season, Morrison (39G, 18A) moved into a tie for ninth on the Southern Conference's career scoring leaders list with 96 total points.

In addition to the SoCon's Athlete-of-the-Month citation, the Lady Paladin forward also earned Southern Conference Player-of-the-Week and Southern Conference TIAA-CREF Student-Athlete-of-the-Week honors during the month of September.

The athlete-of-the-month honor is Morrison's second consecutive such accolade. The Kernersville, N.C,, native was named SoCon Women's Soccer Athlete-of-the-Month in November of 2004 after earning all-tournament and tournament mvp honors while leading Furman to the Southern Conference Tournament championship and its fourth NCAA Tournament berth. Morrison scored four goals, including a first-half hat trick in a 7-0 win over Elon, during last year's SoCon Tournament.

Furman hits the road to take on Elon on Monday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. in Elon, N.C.
