Shelnutt Featured In Sports Illustrated's Faces In The Crowd

Sept. 18, 2008

Greenville, S.C. - Rachel Shelnutt, a freshman forward on the Furman women's soccer team, was included in the "Faces in the Crowd" section of this week's issue of Sports Illustrated.

Shelnutt, a native of St. Simons Island, Ga., scored seven goals in last year's state championship game to lead Frederica Academy to its third state title in the last four years. She also established new Georgia High School records with 68 goals in a single season and 211 during her high school career.

The 5-foot-4 striker wasted little time in impacting the Paladin program netting the game-winning goal in Furman's 2-0 season-opening win over Coastal Carolina on August 29, at Stone Stadium.

Furman, 4-2-1 on the season, returns home to entertain Clemson on Friday. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
