Aug. 25, 2005

GREENVILLE - The Furman Lady Paladins soccer squad, ranked 11th in the Soccer Buzz Southeast Region preseason poll, will open its 2005 season Friday with a 7:00 p.m. contest at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa

"We have been working hard during preseason training and are looking forward to kicking off the real season," said first-year head coach Andrew Burr. "The trip to Northern Iowa will be a good test for us to open the season."

The trip will also be a homecoming of sorts for Lady Paladin senior Nicky Darling who's family resides in Coralville, Iowa, located less than 90 miles from the UNI campus.

Furman, who returns 10 starters from a team that went 14-9-0 and claimed the Southern Conference Tournament title on its way to an NCAA Tournament berth in 2004, will continue its season-opening road trip with a 7 p.m. contest on August 29, at South Carolina.
