Freshman Martha Hall scored her team-leading 10th goal of the season in the 66th minute to lead Furman to a 1-0 victory over Wofford in the regular season finale for both schools Thursday evening at Snyder Field.
After being outshot 7-1 in the opening 45 minutes, Furman managed to break a scoreless tie at 65:31 as Hall deposited a Rachel Fry cross into the left side of the net. Freshman Jessica Smith notched four saves to register her sixth shutout of the season as Furman concluded the regular season at 13-6-1 overall and 7-4 in Southern Conference play.
Wofford (3-11-5, 2-7-2) held a 10-4 edge in shots and 4-3 advantage in shots on goal, but Smith turned away a first half header and Maggie McLaughlin's late strike from 15 yards deflected off of both the cross bar and post before being corralled by Smith.
Furman has earned the No. 5 seed for the upcoming SoCon Tournament. The Paladins will open tournament play with a quarterfinal round match on Sunday. The SoCon Tournament bracket will be finalized following the completion of Thursday's SoCon schedule.
