Second Half Surge Helps Furman Blank The Citadel, 5-0

Charleston, S.C. - Furman netted a season-high five goals, all in the second half, to claim its second victory in as many days blanking The Citadel 5-0 in Southern Conference women's soccer action on Sunday afternoon at Washington Light Infantry Field.

With the victory, the Paladins improved to 12-6-1 overall and 6-4 in Southern Conference play. The Citadel slipped to 3-13-1 overall and 1-9 in the league.

After a scoreless first half, Martha Hall opened the flood gates for Furman netting her team-leading ninth goal of the season at the 54:08 mark on a Rachel Fry assist. Fry, a senior from Gambrills, Md., created another opportunity just minutes later assisting on Graham Marchman's goal at the 64-minute mark to give the Paladins a 2-0 lead.

Furman upped the lead to 3-0 in the 70th minute when Hall fed senior Kate Myatt who netted her second goal of the season. Olivia Dashiell came off of the bench to add to the lead at the 77:39 mark on assists from Marchman and Katya Gokhman before Claire Richards capped the five-goal outburst on assists from Dashiell and Evann Desjardins at 85:42.

Furman outshot The Citadel 24-5 and did not allow a shot on goal all afternoon. Freshmen Jessica Smith and Sarah Caldwell combined to notch the shutout for the Paladins in goal.

Furman concludes its regular season on Thursday when it travels to Upstate rival Wofford. Kickoff at Snyder Field is set for 7 p.m.
