Box Score

Greenville, SC - Andre'a Morrison scored her 12th goal of the season and Andie Hinshaw recorded her seventh shutout as Furman blanked Western Carolina 3-0 on Tuesday evening.

With the goal, Morrison moves into eighth place in career points in the Southern Conference record book with 101 total points (41 goals, 19 assists).

"We met yesterday as a team about the direction of our program," said senior captain Katherine Kelley. "We decided that we needed to come together as a team in order to meet our season goals. We came out from the beginning tonight and played how we wanted to play and got a hard-fought win over a quality opponent."

Furman had an early scoring opportunity in the second minute as Andre'a Morrison got behind the Catamount defense, but her point blank shot was saved by Western Carolina goalkeeper Alesha Row.

Nicky Darlings header in the 34th minute tested Row, but the Catamount `keeper easily made the save.

Furman got on the board at the 37:34 mark on Andre'a Morrison's 12th goal of the season. A Western Carolina defender attempted to head the ball back to Row, but Morrison beat the `keeper to the ball. Her first touch lifted the ball over the sliding goalkeeper and rolled into the back of the net.

Furman took the one-goal lead into the intermission.

Western Carolina looked to have an equalizer in the 49th minute on Natalie Turgeon's header, but Furman goalkeeper Andie Hinshaw made an extraordinary diving save at the far post.

The Catamounts nearly scored again when Hinshaw misplayed a pass, but Keevy Harris' shot was just wide of the far post.

Furman doubled its lead at the 68:00 mark on Tara Marker's third goal of the season. Nicky Darling passed the ball to Marker at the top of the box. Marker took a touch and placed her shot to the right, just out of the reach of the Catamount goalkeeper.

For Marker, this was her second goal in as many games as she recorded the game-winner in Furman's 1-0 overtime victory over Appalachian State on Sunday.

The Lady Paladins scored their third goal of the match at the 79:59 mark. Anna Betton played a ball to Julie Einstein in the middle of the field. Einstein then sent a through ball to Kaylan Pedine alone behind the defense. Pedine's sliding shot was slotted past Row and was just inside the near post.

Kate Myatt nearly recorded her first collegiate goal in the 85th minute, but her curling shot from 25 yards deflected off the far post.

Western Carolina nearly got on the board in the 87th minute as Turgeon's through ball found Tammy Jones unmarked in the box. Hinshaw made a sliding save of Jones' shot to prevent the goal and keep her clean sheet.

With the win, Furman improves to 10-5-1 overall, 5-1-1 in the Southern Conference. Western Carolina falls to 12-4-0 on the season, 3-3-0 in conference action. Furman returns to action on Saturday as the Lady Paladins play host to Wofford at 5:00 p.m.
