Furman Downs Appalachian State 1-0 in Overtime

Boone, NC - Tara Marker's header with just less than three minutes remaining in the first overtime period gave Furman a 1-0 victory over Appalachian State on Sunday afternoon. Gena Villari sent a corner kick into the penalty area, and Marker's header to the near post found the upper corner of the goal for her second goal of the season.

Appalachian State began the game on the offensive, outshooting Furman 10-6 in the first period. Furman came back in the second half and the overtime, holding a 10-5 advantage in shots following the break.

The Lady Paladins held a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks, with its final opportunity providing Furman with the game-winner.

Furman goalkeeper Andie Hinshaw recorded three saves to earn her sixth shutout of the season.

With the win, Furman improves to 9-5-1 overall, 4-1-1 in the Southern Conference. Appalachian State falls to 9-5-1 on the season, 2-4-1 in conference action. The Lady Paladins return to action on Tuesday as they play host to Western Carolina in a match that was postponed from October 6.
