Lady Paladins Shutout Elon 3-0, Remain Unbeaten In SoCon Play

Elon, N.C. - Three different Lady Paladins scored goals and keeper Andie Hinshaw notched her fifth shutout of the season as Furman downed Elon 3-0 in women's soccer action Monday afternoon at Rudd Field in Elon, N.C.

Sophomore Emily Krankowski opened the scoring for Furman in the 14th minute. Elon goalkeeper Lizz Johnson was unable to hold on to Andre'a Morrison's blistering shot and Krankowski deposited the loose ball into the back of the net for her second goal of the season.

Morrison upped the lead to 2-0 at the 43:32 mark with her 11th goal of the campaign. The senior took a pass from freshman Kate Myatt and hooked a shot around Johnson and into the lower lefthand corner.

Less than a minute into the second half Tara Marker added an insurance goal for the Lady Paladins when she converted a penalty kick for the final 3-0 margin.

Furman outshot the Phoenix 25-9 and held a commanding 11-5 edge in shots on goal. Furman registered eight corner kicks to Elon's four. Johnson stopped seven shots for the Phoenix while Hinshaw saved five for the Lady Paladins.

With the win, Furman remains unbeaten in Southern Conference play at 3-0-1 and moves to 8-4-1 overall. The loss drops Elon to 2-9-2 overall and 0-5-0 in league play.

Furman returns home Thursday when it hosts Davidson in a key Southern Conference clash beginning at 7 p.m. at Stone Soccer Stadium.
