Clemson Edges Furman in Carolina's Cup Finale 2-1

Clemson, S.C. - Clemson struck for two first half goals and weathered a second half rally by Furman to hold on to a 2-1 victory in the finale of the Carolina's Cup women's soccer tournament Sunday afternoon at Historic Riggs Field in Clemson, S.C.
Britten Meyer put Clemson on the board first with her first goal of the year on an assist from Allison Graham at the 6:34 mark. The Lady Tigers doubled their advantage at 34:56 on a goal by Candice Hein. Fraser Gerth and Jenny Smith assisted on the second Clemson goal.
Furman trimmed the Clemson lead to 2-1 at the 59:56 mark. Andre'a Morrison fed a pass to Emily Krankowski who beat Lady Tiger goalkeeper Ashley Phillips for her first goal of the season.
Clemson absorbed three Lady Paladin shots on goal in the final eight minutes, but held Furman at bay to improve to 4-1-1 on the season. Phillips earned the win in net totaling seven saves.
Andie Hinshaw suffered the loss for Furman despite registering three stops. The Lady Paladins fell to 2-4-0 on the season.
Total shots were even at 12-12 while Furman held an 8-5 edge in shots on goal. The Lady Paladins also recorded a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Furman returns to action next weekend when it hosts the Select Kickoff Classic, its home opener, at Stone Soccer Stadium September 16-18.
