Dayton Downs Lady Paladins at Nike Dayton Flyer Invitational 2-1

Dayton, Ohio - The Dayton Flyers rallied from a 1-0 deficit with two second half goals to down Furman 2-1 in the nightcap of the opening round of the 2005 Nike Dayton Flyer Invitational Friday evening at Baujan Field in Dayton, Ohio.

Nicky Darling gave the Lady Paladins a 1-0 lead in the first half with a goal at the 12:10 mark. Darling dribbled 20 yards and laced a shot off the post to beat Flyer keeper Niki Reed.

After trailing at the half, Dayton found an equalizer at 66:44. Alicija Bredlo netted a goal off of a Dayton corner kick to knot the game at 1-1 on assists from Reba Sedlacek and Katie Lowstuter.

Sedlacek would tally the eventual game-winnig goal less than 20 minutes later. Kim Sacher received a pass from Kristen Persichini on the right wing and served it into the box. Sedlacek headed the cross past Furman keeper Andie Hinshaw to break the deadlock and give the Flyers a 2-1 lead they would not surrender.

Dayton outshot the Lady Paladins 20-10 for the match and held a 5-3 edge in corner kicks. Hinshaw, a senior from Raleigh, N.C., recorded nine saves in the loss while Reed tallied three stops for the Flyers.

Furman,1-1 on the season, returns to action Sunday whenit faces Ohio State on the final day of the Nike Dayton Flyer Invitational. Kickoff is scheduled for 11:00a.m.
