Auburn Downs Lady Paladins In Season Opener, 3-0

AUBURN, Ala. - The Auburn Tigers tallied three second half goals after a scoreless first half to down the Furman Lady Paladins 3-0 in the season opener for both teams Friday evening at the Auburn Soccer Complex. Auburn's Jada Stewart opened the scoring in the 53rd minute beating Furman keeper Andie Hinshaw from five yards out to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead. Less than two minutes later, Chrissy Culver took a pass from Sarah Steinmann and finished from three yards to up the advantage to 2-0. After dominating possession throughout the second half, Steinmann gave Auburn the final 3-0 margin on a goal assisted by Courtney Crandall at the 83:38 mark. The Tigers held a 21-4 advantage on shots in the match, including a commanding 15-1 edge in the second half. Auburn, ranked 23rd in the NSCAA preseason poll, finished the match with an 8-1 edge in corner kicks and 11-10 advantage in fouls. Hinshaw totalled six saves in a losing effort. Furman returns to action on August 31, when the Lady Paladins host South Carolina in the home opener at Eugene Stone Soccer Stadium at 7:00 p.m.
