Furman head women's soccer coach Andrew Burr announced the hiring of former Paladin standout and Columbia College head coach April Raymer as assistant coach in May of 2008.

In her first season as assistant coach, Furman posted a 14-6-2 record, advanced to the semifinals of the SoCon Tournament and scored its first victory over Clemson in the program's history.

Raymer served as head coach at NAIA member Columbia College for two seasons. Prior to her stint in Columbia, S.C., she served as head coach at Travelers Rest High School in 2005.

"I am very excited to have April join our staff," said Burr. "As a player, April was a great talent and great representative for Furman and I am sure she will do the same as a coach."

A native of Marietta, Ga., Raymer helped the Paladins to a 45-20-3 overall record and 29-2-1 SoCon mark in her three-year career at Furman. She led Furman to league regular season titles in 2002 and 2003 while guiding the Paladins to SoCon Tournament crowns in 2002 and 2004. The defender, who scored seven goals and added 10 assists in her career for Furman after transferring from Wake Forest prior to the 2002 campaign, earned first team All-SoCon honors as a junior and senior. She also captured All-SoCon Tournament accolades as a sophomore.

Raymer, Gatorade's Georgia Player-of-the-Year as a senior at Wheeler High School, earned a degree in communication studies from Furman in 2005.
