Lexington, Va. -- Three different Paladins found the back of the net and Caitlyn Reilly tallied two assists as Furman blanked VMI, 3-0, in Southern Conference women's soccer action on Sunday afternoon at Patchin Field in Lexington, Va.

The victory improved the Paladins to 7-6 overall and 2-4 in SoCon play, while the Keydets slipped to 6-5-1 overall and 0-5 in the league.

"We really needed a victory today and our team responded well on the road," said Paladin head coach Andrew Burr. "It's always difficult playing the second game in less than 48 hours, but we were able to score several nice goals and get the win."

After dominating possession throughout the opening half, Furman grabbed a 1-0 lead in the 42nd minute when Reilly picked out Amanda Baker with a long ball down the left wing. Baker dribbled into the box and played a pass back into the middle to Stephanie Arrington who tucked her shot into the left corner at the 41:46 mark for her first tally of the year.

In the 62nd minute, the Paladins drew a foul just outside the box and even with the left post. Freshman Erin Houlihan stepped up to take the free kick and banged her shot off of the bottom of the crossbar and over the goal line for her team-leading fifth goal of the season to hand Furman a 2-0 advantage at 61:30.

Junior Arianna Milicia capped the scoring at 65:45. Ellie Laxer played a ball down the left touch line to Reilly, who crossed the ball towards the near post and Milicia volleyed a left-footed shot into the nearside corner to up the margin to 3-0.

The Paladins outshot VMI 25-12, including 10-4 in shots on target. Junior Kellsey Weaver stopped four shots in over 76 minutes of action to earn the victory for Furman, while Sidney Swoope recorded seven saves for the Keydets.

Furman returns home to host The Citadel Thursday on Seagraves Field at Stone Soccer Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. and tickets will be available for $5 online and at the Stone Stadium gate beginning one hour prior to game time.
