Greensboro, N.C. -- Cienna Rideout headed in the go-ahead goal at the 54:02 mark to propel the UNCG Spartans to a 1-0 victory over Furman in Southern Conference women's soccer play on Friday night in Greensboro, N.C.

After a first half that featured 17 combined shots, including eight shots on goal, UNCG edged ahead in the 55th minute when Marissa Ferrantino played a cross to the near corner of the six-yard box from the left side and Rideout calmly headed the pass inside the left post for her 10th goal of the season.

Furman 6-6-0, 1-4-0 SoCon) pressed forward to try and create an equalizer in the final 35 minutes, but the Paladins were unable to find the back of the net despite out-shooting UNCG 5-4 in the second period. Furman's most dangerous chances in the second half came on a free kick by Erin O'Hearn that was played between the back line and goalkeeper, however, a charging Cat Headley was unable to redirect to set piece before it cleared the end line. Ellie Laxer attempted a cross late in the second half that knuckled and sailed just inches over the crossbar.

Junior Kellsey Weaver kept Furman in the match with seven saves, including a point-blank grab with 13:12 to play in the first half and a diving stop near her left post with 4:12 remaining before halftime. Aiyanah Tyler-Cooper recorded six saves to register the clean sheet for the Spartans.

UNCG (9-2-1, 4-0-0 SoCon) held a 14-12 advantage in total shots and an 8-6 margin in shots on goal.

The Paladins return to action Sunday, October 7, at 2 p.m. when they face the VMI Keydets in Lexington, Va. Sunday's match will be streamed live on ESPN3 with live statistics provided through StatBroadcast. Links for both can be found at
