Greenville, S.C. -- Furman found the back of the net three times in the opening 30 minutes en route to a 3-1 victory over the Atlantic 10 Conference's Richmond Spiders in the women's soccer regular season opener for both schools Friday evening on Seagraves Field at Stone Soccer Stadium.

Junior Caitlyn Reilly opened the scoring for head coach Andrew Burr's squad less than 11 minutes into the first half when she collected a loose ball beyond the top of the 18-yard box and lined a shot past Richmond's goalkeeper from long distance at the 10:29 mark.

Less than 10 minutes later, Erin O'Hearn played Amanda Baker behind the defense on the left side of the box and the junior fired a shot across the face of goal into the right side netting to increase the Paladins' advantage to 2-0. Baker capped the scoring for Furman at the 29:13 mark as Reilly chased the ball down deep on the right side and played a pass through the box that Baker slid onto to record her second goal of the night.

"Our team is still learning who we are and what our identity is," said Burr, following the season-opening win. "It was great to see us start fast tonight and give everyone on our roster a chance to play in the opener."

Richmond pulled a goal back off of a set piece in the 58th minute as Molly Morgan deflected Brooke Beam's corner kick through a crowd of players and into the back of the net, but Furman controlled the majority of possession over the final 30 minutes to secure the win.

The Paladins posted an 18-7 edge in total shots and 7-5 advantage in shots on goal. Kellsey Weaver played the first 45 minutes in goal and notched one save, while Allie Cutler stopped three shots in the second half. Jessica Stanfill turned away three shots for the Spiders and defender Caroline Lydecker made a last-ditch slide tackle to deny Baker the hat trick in the second half.
