Women’s Soccer Travels To Mercer, The Citadel This Weekend

Greenville, S.C. -- The Furman women's soccer team hits the road for trips to Mercer and The Citadel this weekend.

The Paladins visit Macon, Ga., to face the Bears on Friday at 7 p.m. before facing The Citadel at 2 p.m. on Sunday in Charleston, S.C.

Furman enters the weekend on a four-game winning streak after downing VMI, 3-0, and UNCG, 2-0, last weekend to begin Southern Conference play. Senior Rachel Shah, who garnered SoCon Player of the Week honors on Tuesday, tallied one goal and assisted on three others last weekend as the Paladins improved to 6-2-1 overall and 2-0 in the SoCon.

Senior Molly Dwyer, who netted two goals in last Friday's home win versus VMI, leads the Paladins with seven goals and three assists, while sophomore Treva Aycock has added four goals and two assists. Shah ranks as the SoCon leader with seven assists on the season.

Friday's match marks the seventh all-time meeting between Furman and Mercer with the Paladins holding a 3-2-1 series lead. Mercer, who sports a 7-4 overall record and 1-0 mark in the SoCon this season following a 3-1 home win versus The Citadel last weekend, downed the Paladins, 1-0, in Greenville last season after Furman claimed a pair of 1-0 victories over the Bears in 2015.

Sunday's contest will be the 18th series meeting between Furman and The Citadel. The Paladins hold a 15-2-0 series lead and downed the Bulldogs, 3-0, last season for their second straight series triumph. The Citadel is 5-4-0 overall and 0-1 in the league after falling to Mercer in its SoCon opener.
