Greenville, S.C. -- Senior Jenny Allen rallied Furman from an early 1-0 deficit with a goal in the 72nd minute as the Paladins forged a 1-1 draw with Big Ten Conference member Maryland in non-conference women's soccer action on Sunday morning at Stone Stadium.

With the Paladins trailing by a goal and just over 18 minutes left in regulation, Erin O'Hearn and Rachel Shah combined on a pass following a corner kick from the right side. Shah sent a low cross towards the top of the six-yard box where Allen fired to the right side of the net to beat Maryland's Rachel Egyed with the equalizer at 71:58. The goal was the first as a Paladin for Allen, who joined the team as a senior transfer this season from Armstrong State.

Furman began to wear down the Terrapins and nearly found the winning goal in extra time. Seven minutes into the first overtime period, Shah slotted a pass through to the right side of the box for Treva Aycock, but Egyed was able to stop the sophomore's goal-bound effort from a tight angle. Midway through the second extra period, Aycock curled a cross from the left into the box in front of a charging Molly Dwyer, but the senior was unable to redirect the shot on goal.

"I thought we played well today against a solid Big Ten opponent in Maryland," said Burr. "We showed some definite improvement from Thursday's match and played a much more attractive game. Hopefully, we can build on this and continue to take positive steps as we head towards SoCon play."

The Paladins, who were outshot 5-4 over the opening 45 minutes, finished with an 18-11 edge in total shots and 8-5 advantage in shots on goal.

Sophomore Kellsey Weaver stopped four shots in goal for the Paladins, while Egyed turned away seven shots for the Terrapins.
