UNCG Blanks Furman Women’s Soccer, 4-0

Greensboro, N.C. -- UNCG netted three second half goals, including a pair from Diarra Simmons, to down Furman and hand the Paladins their first Southern Conference loss of the season, 4-0, on Sunday afternoon in Greensboro, N.C.

The loss dropped the Paladins to 9-2-1 overall and 3-1-0 in the SoCon, while UNCG upped its record to 4-7-2 and 1-1-1 in the league.

Furman had its chances in the early going as the Paladins earned several corner kicks and Treva Aycock hit the cross bar, but it was the Spartans taking the lead in the 12th minute when Maddie Hoffman poked in a shot off of a Melanie Spensiero corner kick. Spensiero doubled the UNCG lead in the 49th minute on a seven-yard header off of a Georgia Brown cross to make the score line 2-0.

Simmons erased any chance of a Paladin comeback when she tallied her second goal of the season in the 70th minute and added another in the 75th minute. Senior Rose Hull, who tallied two saves, took the loss for the Paladins.

UNCG's Chloe Buehler stopped six shots to earn the victory for the Spartans, who outshot Furman 13-12 and held a 7-6 edge in shots on goal.

Furman returns home to host Mercer and The Citadel in SoCon play next Friday and Sunday on Seagraves Field at Stone Stadium. Live statistics and a live video feed via the SoCon Digital Network will be available for both matches by logging onto
