Lexington, Va. -- Junior Rachel Shah netted a hat trick and freshman Treva Aycock tallied two assists to boost Furman to a 3-0 victory over VMI in Southern Conference women's soccer action on a rain-soaked Drill Field No. 2 on Friday afternoon in Lexington, Va.

The 3-0 win marked the fifth straight victory for Furman. The Paladins improved to 9-1-1 overall with their ninth shutout of the season and upped their SoCon record to 3-0-0. VMI dipped to 4-7-0 overall and 1-1-0 in SoCon play.

With 34 second remaining in a scoreless first half, Shah took a Claudia Murphy pass and rifled home a shot to break the deadlock. Just 2:19 after the restart, the midfielder received a pass out of the left corner from Treva Aycock and hammered in a shot from eight yards out to double the Paladins' advantage at the 47:19 mark.

In the 88th minute, Aycock played a ball back to Shah who looped a shot over the VMI goalkeeper for her third goal of the match and fourth of the season.

"It's always good to win on the road," said Furman coach Andrew Burr. "I'm proud of our defensive focus today to get another shutout, and it great to see Rachel producing for us offensively."

Freshman Kellsey Weaver upped her record in goal to 3-0-1 and recorded her second solo shutout of the season by stopping one VMI shot. Ceci Keppeler turned away five shots in a losing effort for the Keydets.

The Paladins held a 14-8 edge in total shot attempts and finished with a commanding 8-1 advantage in shots on goal.
