Couch’s Header Propels Furman Women’s Soccer Over Vanderbilt In Exhibition Action, 1-0

Greenville, S.C. -- Senior Carlie Couch headed a Treva Aycock cross past Vanderbilt goalkeeper Kaitlyn Farhner in the 63rd minute to lift the Paladins to a 1-0 victory over the Commodores in exhibition women's soccer action on Saturday evening at Stone Stadium.

After Furman dominated the possession and outshot the Commodores 8-1 in the first 45 minutes, the Paladins grabbed the lead at the 62:56 mark. Freshman Arianna Milicia played the ball to Aycock down the left side and the Marietta, Ga., native separated herself from her defender before sending a cross towards the top of the six-yard box that Couch redirected into the center of the net.

"It was a good win for us today and I'm proud of the girls, who worked hard," said Paladin head coach Andrew Burr. "This kind of finishes off preseason for us with Georgia this past Thursday and Vanderbilt today. It's certainly going to prepare us for the regular season."

Vanderbilt attempted to turn up the pressure on the Furman defense of the final 27 minutes, but Paladin goalkeeper Rose Hull, who entered the match to begin the second half, recorded three saves to share the clean sheet with freshman Kellsey Weaver, who patrolled the box in the opening 45 minutes.

The Paladins managed a 13-5 edge in shot attempts and 6-3 advantage in shots on goal. Furman earned seven corner kicks to just two for the Commodores.
