Nashville, Tenn. – Three different players netted four goals as Vanderbilt downed Furman, 19-7, on Saturday afternoon in Nashville. The win moves the Commodores to 3-0 on the year, while the loss drops the Paladins to 1-3.
Furman was led by Meg Lingo with two goals, while Britt Douglass, Gaby Susz, Grace Pollak, Hannah Feinberg, and Sophie Brennan each added one. Maggie Friel made eight saves for the Paladins, while Courtney Baker added three.
Vanderbilt opened the scoring with three-straight goals, before Meg Lingo ende the run with a free-position opportunity. The Commodores responded with three-straight scores, before the Paladins got another free-position score from Lingo to cut the lead to 6-2. The teams traded goals before Vandy stretched the lead to 11 three, before again trading scores to send the teams to the halftime locker rooms with Vanderbilt holding a 12-5 advantage.
Vanderbilt rattled off five-straight goals to open the second half and really put the game away, before Britt Douglass ended the run with her first goal of the day. Vandy used back-to-back scores to push the lead to 19-6, before Gaby Susz netted a goal with 2:04 to go to make the final score 19-7.
Emily Mathewson, Julie Blaze, and Kayla Peterson each scored four goals for Vanderbilt, while Hadley Brown added a goal and two assists.
Furman is back in action on March 3, traveling to Baltimore, Md., for a 1:00 pm matchup with Johns Hopkins.
