Furman in the Ladies Professional
Golf Association
Few collegiate
golf programs have produced more outstanding professional golfers than Furman
University. With 13 former Lady Paladins currently playing on the LPGA tour
and one former Paladin a member of the PGA, Furman has a strong presence in
the world of professional golf.
The most
recognizable Furman names on the LPGA tour include Hall of Fame members Betsy
King ('77) and Beth Daniel ('78). Other outstanding Furman alumnae on tour
include Sherri Turner ('79), Dottie Pepper ('87), Cindy Ferro ('76), Caroline
Blaylock ('95), Ashli Price-Bunch ('97), Diana D'Alessio ('97), Joan Delk
('83), Sara Anne Timms McGetrick ('85), Denise Baldwin-Killeen ('84), Jen
Hanna ('98) and Maggie Will-Halpin ('87).
Furman's
top three tour players - King, Daniel, and Pepper - have a total of seven
Rolex Player of the Year Awards, six Vare Trophies, and one Rolex Rookie of
the Year award. In addition, the three have participated in the last four
Solheim Cup competitions, and King has twice won the Samaritan Award as the
LPGA player who most clearly demonstrates the selfless qualities of a "good
Samaritan."
