Lamb Advances At U.S. Women's Amateur Championship

Aug. 7, 2007

Carmel, Ind. - Furman's Blair Lamb (77-73=150) carded a second round 73 to finish in a tie for 51st place at six-over par and advance to the 64-player match play bracket on Tuesday at the 107th U.S. Women's Amateur Championship at Crooked Stick Golf Club in Carmel, Indiana.

After completing her weathered delayed opening round on Tuesday morning at five-over par 77, Lamb birdied two of the first eight holes on the front nine on her way to a one-over 73 in round two.

Kristina Wong (70-69=139) and Stacy Lewis (70-69=139) tied for first in the 154-player, two-round stroke play segment at five-under par.

Furman incoming freshman Stefanie Kenoyer (80-82=162) failed to make the cut after struggling on the back nine in each of her two rounds.

Lamb, a rising junior and defending Southern Conference medalist, will open single elimination match play on Wednesday against an opponent yet to be announced. Following Wednesday's 18-hole match, the winner advances to the second round on Thursday morning with third round action set for Thursday afternoon. The quarterfinals are scheduled for Friday with the semifinals on Saturday and a 36-hole final on tap for Sunday.

Lady Paladin golfers have had a history of success at the U.S. Women's Amateur with Beth Daniel claiming the title in 1975 and 1977. Former Furman standout Brandi Jackson reached the finals before falling to Becky Lucidi in 2003.
