Greenville, S.C. -
The Furman University Golf Club and the Furman men's and women's golf programs will celebrate the grand opening of the newest Ritson-Sole Golf School at Furman's REK Center for Intercollegiate Golf on Saturday at 1 p.m. hosting a free clinic with teaching pros Mel Sole & Jennifer Shillington.
Ritson-Sole Golf School, created by Phil Ritson and former PGA player Mel Sole, has been ranked among the top five golf academies by Golf Magazine every year since 1999. Along with its new location at Furman, Ritson-Sole Golf Schools are located in Pawleys Island, S.C., Atlanta, Ga., Kansas City, Mo., Ellicottville, N.Y., Chicago, Ill., Pittsburgh, Pa., Chatham, Ontario, and Malinalco, Mexico.
Shillington, a native of Ontario, will be the school's LPGA teacher and owner at the Furman University location. She is a member of the LPGA Teaching and Club Professional Division and has worked as staff instructor with the Ritson-Sole Golf School for five years. She works with each individual to personally evaluate and improve specific areas of each person's game without forcing completely new methods. She teaches all skill levels, from beginners to several current LPGA Touring Professionals.
"The addition of the Ritson-Sole Golf School will have a positive effect on the community, Furman University, the Furman Golf Club and especially the men's and women's golf programs here at Furman," said Lady Paladin Head Coach Jen Hanna. "Along with private, group and corporate lessons, Jennifer will be a valuable tool in working with and improving our golf programs here at Furman."
"We are excited for the opportunity to work with Jennifer and look forward to her having a positive impact on Furman golf," said Paladin head coach Todd Satterfield. "She will be a great influence on the growth and development of our golfers."
Golf classes will run year-round at the Furman University Golf Club. The three-day golf programs start every Monday and Thursday, and include instruction on all aspects of the long and short game, utilizing the appropriate practice areas.
Included with the three-day schools is a program on the mental aspects of golf, developed by one of the leading sports psychologists, which has had exciting results for our students. The school uses the latest in computerized teaching equipment to diagnose swing problems and to monitor results. A personal take-home drill CD or DVD is provided for reference and follow-up practice.
