Lady Paladin Golfers Slide To 21st

May 19, 2005

SUNRIVER, Ore. -

The weather at the Sunriver Resort's Meadows Course cleared on Thursday, but Furman's Lady Paladins shot a 309 to fall to 21st in the team standings, with a three-round 917 total.

Sophomore Jenny Suh (Fairfax, Va.) paced the squad with a two-over 73 at the 6,300-yard, par 71 course, and is at 10-over (223) for the tournament.  Sophomore Sarah Sturm's (Spartanburg, S.C.) three-over 75 was her best round of the championships and puts her at 232 for the competition, while Monique Gesualdi (St. Augustine, Fla.) fired a third round 80 and is at 237.  Connor Atkinson (Charleston, S.C.)  rounded out the Furman counters with an 81 on Thursday, while Theresa Paik (Silver Spring, Md.) fired an 82 and is at 233 entering the final round.

"I am very disappointed with today's round," said coach Mic Potter.  "We knew with this course and these conditions that bogeys would be a fact of life, but we talked at length about taking our bogeys and avoiding the really big numbers.  Unfortunately, today we had five doubles and two triples and those kinds of numbers add up in a hurry."

Furman will most likely be paired with Tulane and Purdue for the final round on Friday, and will tee off beginning at 9 a.m. Pacific Daylight Time.
