NCAA East Regional Set To Begin on Thursday

May 4, 2005

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -

Furman's Lady Paladin golf team is set to tee off in the first round of the NCAA East Regional Thursday at the University of Florida Golf Course.

The 19th-ranked Lady Paladins got in eight practice holes on Wednesday before a three hour weather delay and subsequent cancellation of the practice round cut short their preparation.

"We are very happy that we played here in the spring," said coach Mic Potter after the practice round was cancelled.  "We remember this course and know what we need to do to play well out here - now we just need to execute."

In addition to cancelling Wednesday's practice round, the NCAA golf committee pushed back all Thursday tee times by one hour, giving the golf course more time to recover from the strong storms that blew through the area on Wednesday.  Consequently, the Lady Paladins will tee off beginning at 8:40 instead of 7:40 Thursday morning.  Furman, the region's seventh, will be paired with UNC Wilmington and Virginia.

The top eight teams and top two individuals not on an advancing team will earn berths in the NCAA Championships, May 17-20, at the Sunriver Resort in Sunriver, Ore.  Rounds two and three are scheduled for Friday and Saturday, respectively.
