Lady Paladins Open Play At SoCon Women's Golf Championships On Sunday
April 14, 2007
Mt. Pleasant, S.C. - The Furman women's golf team goes in search of its 12th SoCon title when it tees off at the Southern Conference Women's Golf Championships Sunday morning at Patriots Point Golf Links in Mt. Pleasant, S.C.
The Lady Paladins will field a lineup that includes Ashley Baker (Fr.), Monique Gesualdi (Sr.), Corrine Carr (Fr.), Kathleen Ekey (So.) and Blair Lamb (So.). Ekey has paced the Lady Paladins this season with a 75.4 stroke average while Lamb notched her best effort of the season, a third place finish, at last weekend's Bryan National Collegiate.
The College of Charleston took the team title at last year's tournament to become the first team other than Furman and Western Carolina to take first in the 13-year history of the event. A Furman student-athlete has taken top individual accolades 10 times since the start of the event, including current Furman head coach Jen Hanna's SoCon individual championship in 1998.
Sunday's first round action in the three-day, 36-hole event begins at 7:30 a.m. Ashley Baker will be the first Lady Paladin to tee-off at 8:10 a.m.
Second round play is slated for Monday with the final round scheduled for Tuesday morning.
